Gardening on a dime!
As spring is approaching, I thought it might be a good idea to start this blog by providing 10 ways to garden on a budget. Here we go!
1. Start plants from seed: this takes patience, but you can grow lots more for a lot less!
2. Make more plants by collecting seeds, cutting, and making divisions: you don’t have to wait until a perennial “needs” dividing… they may start off small but they will catch up fast!
3. Start with smaller plants: smaller plants comes with a smaller price. Or you can buy one large plant and divide it into two or three smaller plants.
4. Host a plant swap: a perfect excuse to get rid of a plant that is overtaking your garden. And the variety of plants you get adds character to your garden.
5. Buy in bulk: get together with some friends and buy plants in bulk to cut down on costs. You can all split up the purchase.
6. Compost: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
7. Recycle and Salvage: newspapers are great weed barriers, bottles can protect seedlings, yogurt containers can start young seeds…
8. Collect water: rain barrel is an essential garden tool!
9. Install drip irrigation: it is not as complicated or expensive as it looks.
10. Yard Sales: these are great places to look for bargains.
